Your Bill Is About To Be
Rebuilt Around Your
Worst 15 Minutes.

Beginning January 1, 2027, NV Energy moves Southern Nevada to a daily demand rate model. Part of your bill will be based on your single highest 15 minutes of usage each day — not just how much power you used all month.

Some homes will barely notice. Some will get hit hard. The difference isn't how much you use — it's how much you use at once.

What It Actually Means

Five Ways Daily Demand Charges Can Hurt You.

NV Energy’s own materials describe the change in fairly neutral terms. Here is what it means at the level of a single household — five specific ways the structure can work against you.

1

One spike can cost you every day.NV Energy records your highest 15 minutes each day, resets it, then adds every daily peak together. A/C, dryer, oven, pool pump and EV charging at once can repeat that charge all month long.

2

Use less power, still pay more.Demand charges measure how much you pull at once — not how much you use overall. Conserving steadily across the month no longer protects you the way it used to.

3

Your peak. Not the grid’s.NV Energy describes daily demand as not a time-of-use rate. Your spike can count against you even when the wider system is not under maximum stress.

4

Hardest on those least able to shift.Larger families, seniors, renters, medical-equipment users and older homes often can’t stagger appliances or afford efficient HVAC or batteries. Lower-income homes already carry a higher energy burden.

5

It can shrink your solar payback.Solar cuts daytime purchases but may not cut your highest evening or overnight 15 minutes. NV Energy says some Southern Nevada rooftop-solar customers may see a bill increase.

For balance: The structure is currently scheduled to begin January 1, 2027. NV Energy states that lower basic service and per-kWh charges are intended to offset the demand component, and that most customers should see little or no overall change. These are consumer risks — not a guarantee that every household’s bill will rise.

Will This Actually Affect Your Home?

Five questions. No account login, no bill upload, no obligation. You'll get a straight answer — including "you're probably fine," if that's the truth.

Demand Charge Exposure Check

Question 1 of 5

Does your home have rooftop solar?

This matters more than anything else on this page — and here's why: solar produces least in the early evening, which is exactly when the new charge does its measuring.

Pick one to continue.

Which of these does your home have?

Tap everything that applies. These are the loads big enough to set your daily peak on their own.

Pick at least one to continue.

Roughly how old is your central air conditioning system?

Older systems start at full draw. Newer variable-speed units ramp up — and that difference lands squarely inside your worst 15 minutes.

On your busiest weekday evening, 5–8pm, what's usually happening?

This is the real question. The same appliances produce completely different bills depending on whether they run together.

Have you looked at your 15-minute usage data yet?

NV Energy already gives you this, free, inside MyAccount. It shows exactly when your home spikes. Almost nobody knows it's there.

    The Easy Button
Don’t want to work this out on your own?

You’ve seen roughly where your home sits. The next step is someone reading your actual 15-minute data — not a quiz estimate — and telling you exactly which fixes apply to your house, in what order.

Free. About 45 minutes. Nothing sold at the door. If the honest answer is “move your dryer and you’re done,” that’s what you’ll hear.

We're not working your ZIP yet.

We'd rather tell you that now than book a visit and cancel on you. You're on the list — we'll reach out if we open your area up, and we won't pester you in the meantime. Everything above still applies to your home, and the free MyAccount step costs you nothing. Questions in the meantime: 702.508.6441.

Got it — check your phone.

We'll text you in the next minute or two to confirm a time. If nothing arrives, call 702.508.6441.

    What Actually Helps

Four Ways To Flatten A Spike.

Two of these are free. We'll tell you which ones apply to your home before we ever talk about equipment.

    Battery Storage

The only fix that works without changing how you live. The battery covers the spike; the grid never sees it.

    Smart Scheduling

Free. Move the dryer, dishwasher and EV charging out of the 5–8pm window and your peak drops on its own.

    Smart Climate

Mostly free. Pre-cool before the window instead of asking the A/C to catch up during it.

    Managed EV Charging

A Level 2 charger can double your peak by itself. Scheduling it after midnight usually solves the whole problem.

    The Shortcut

More Than You Want To Tackle
On Your Own? We Got You.

Skip the quiz. Hit the button, give us three details, and a LivSmart specialist picks it up from there — reads your actual usage pattern, tells you which of those four fixes apply to your home, and hands you a plan.

    Straight Answers

    Questions People Actually Ask.

    Is this a rate increase?
NV Energy's position is that it isn't — the per-kWh rate comes down to offset the new demand component, and they state the restructuring "is not designed to increase your bill." Whether that holds true for your home depends entirely on how concentrated your usage is. Spread-out homes can come out neutral or slightly ahead. Spiky homes don't. Rate changes are subject to approval by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.
Can I just use less electricity?
That helps your kWh charges, but it isn't what the demand component measures. You could cut your monthly usage substantially and still have the same daily peak if everything still switches on at 6pm. Flattening beats reducing.
I have solar. Doesn't that cover me?
Not for this. Solar output falls away through the late afternoon and is essentially gone by the time most households hit their peak. That's why NV Energy has projected rooftop solar customers could see monthly bills rise while most other customers see little change. Solar plus storage is a different story — the battery is what covers the evening.
How do I see my own 15-minute data?
Sign in to NV Energy MyAccount and look at the usage tools. You can view your consumption down to 15-minute increments and find the times of day your use is highest. It's free, it's yours, and it's the honest starting point — whether or not you ever talk to us.
    What does the evaluation cost?
Nothing, and there's no obligation. A technician walks your home, looks at your actual load profile and tells you which of the four fixes above apply. If the answer is "shift your dryer and you're done," that's what we'll say.
    When exactly does this start?
The daily demand model is scheduled to begin January 1, 2027 for Southern Nevada residential customers. That date has moved more than once as the Public Utilities Commission has reviewed it, so treat it as the current plan rather than a certainty.

The quiz takes a minute. The free evaluation takes about forty-five. Either one leaves you knowing more about your own home than you do right now.
